Presented in conjunction with the A Place For All People exhibition

Join us as Dr. Stewart explores the historic struggle for the Martin Luther King, Jr. state holiday in Arizona. A look at lessons learned, and how they may help us work together in this hyper-bipartisan climate — as a state and nation.

Between 1986 and 1992, a diverse group of leaders came together with a single vision: To reinstate the King Holiday in Arizona, and restore the internationally tarnished image of the state. With this unified vision and collaboration, they accomplished their goal by winning the vote of the people of Arizona — a singularly impressive achievement.
