H.E.A.T. – History Education for Arizona Teachers

Traveling Trunks

Trunks come with complete lesson plans and an interactive activity. The lesson plans we provide with these trunks align with Arizona State Standards for grades 1-8. If a trunk is unavailable, we can still provide you with lesson plans and a presentation featuring all the objects in the trunk.

Current Trunks

  • Pioneer Trunk
    • includes various cooking utensils, homegoods, and belongings from Arizona Pioneers
  • WWII Trunk
    • includes artifacts from the homefront and frontlines of WWII

We do not charge for Traveling Trunk rentals at this time as we are in the pilot phase. Transportation of the trunk to and from your school will be handled by representatives from the Arizona Historical Society.

Lesson Plans

We offer premade lesson plans on a variety of topics including:

  • WWII in Arizona
  • Japanese Internment
  • Women’s Airforce Service Pilots
  • Arizona Pioneers
  • The Untold Story of Black Cowboys
  • Copper Mining in Arizona

Fill out the form below to request any of the above lesson plans for your students’ grade level.

If you would like a lesson plan on an Arizona topic not listed above please reach out and we can work to get one made for you using our library and archives as a source.

Exhibits in the Classroom

These presentations are done through Zoom or Google Meets and allow your students to experience the museum from your classroom. We can focus on a specific topic in each or both of our museums (such as WWII, Mining, Transportation, Geranimo, and more) or do a full tour of either the Arizona Heritage Center or the Arizona History Museum. Please contact us for a full list of all exhibits in each museum.

Professional Development Workshops

Invest in your educators with dynamic in-person and virtual professional development workshops designed to inspire innovation, strengthen classroom instruction, and support certification renewal requirements. Featured offerings include Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) workshops that help educators bring history, inquiry, and critical thinking to life through engaging, AZ state standards-aligned resources.
