Behind-the-Scenes Collection Tour (1:45 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.)
Join AHS Collections Staff on an adventure through the Arizona Heritage Center’s Collections Vault. See firsthand some of AHS’ most important historical objects relating to themes such as World War II, Japanese Incarceration, and the Postwar boom; people like Barry Goldwater and Rose Mofford; and artwork created by artists such as Marjorie Reed, Maynard Dixon, Ed Mell, and Francis Beaugureau. So follow our staff behind the scenes to sneak a peek at these collections highlights and more.

“Georgie Clifford and the Dark Underside of the Old West”
Dr. Eduardo Obregón Pagán, ASU
Twenty-year-old Georgie Clifford was one of the earliest female prisoners housed in the Yuma Territorial Prison in 1894. Before Pearl Hart, she was the most notorious female prisoner of her time. She was also addicted to morphine and a trafficked sex worker. Arizona State University’s Bob Stump Endowed Professor of History Eduardo Obregón Pagán will explore, through the story of Georgie’s life, how unregulated narcotics and sex work played an integral but understudied part of the life and economy and culture of the Old West.
