Robert Markow Photography Collection
Robert “Bob” Markow was an Arizona photographer who was active from the mid-1940s to the early 1990s. Originally a military photographer at Thunderbird Field during World War II, Markow would later open his own photography studio in Phoenix. His and his studio’s work spans many subjects including portraitures, landscapes, and buildings. The thousands of negatives he amassed over his career were used in various corporate and personal settings – ads, brochures, employee portraits, wedding memories, and much more. This collection also spans the transition from mostly black and white to color photography as the norm.
Through his studio work, job records and numbers were kept for his negatives and most of the professional work is reflected in a physical card catalog. Below you will find a digitized version of this catalog broken down by letter that has been made text searchable (Control + F) as well as the initial finding aid for the collection. Note: Some of the cards have handwritten notes or entries. Therefore a search may NOT reveal all the negatives available. Please be aware that some browsing of the card catalog may help you find the material you seek.
