This class will teach students how to identify the suitability of found steel for making tools as well as the process of shaping, heat treating, and tempering the final product. We will discuss the metallurgy of tool steels and how to identify the approximate hardness of the finished tool. Students will leave with at least one finished tool they can use in their shop. We will also cover a basic introduction to forging blades and edged tools.
Prerequisites: Students must have taken an introductory class in blacksmithing at Pioneer Museum. Exception may be made based on prior experience.
$80 per participant and all tools are provided – pants, long-sleeve shirts, and boots/closed-toe shoes are required. Space is limited. Reserve your anvil soon. [email protected]
