About the Board of Directors

A Governor-appointed State Board of Directors serves in a governing capacity and provides oversight of Arizona Historical Society activities. The Board includes representatives from each of the 15 counties as well as at-large members from the community. Board meetings are subject to Open Meeting Laws. Read the Board Policy Manual.

In addition to the State Board, each AHS Division has a local Chapter Board, also serving in an advisory capacity. Specific responsibilities are determined by each respective Chapter Board. Chapter Boards include: Central – Phoenix/Tempe; Southern – Tucson; Northern – Flagstaff; Rio Colorado – Yuma.

Apply for the Board

The Arizona Historical Society has a Governor-appointed board of directors, serving from each county in the state and at-large. Board members serve terms of three years and are chosen for their demonstrated ability, good judgment and experience in history-related fields. If you have an interest in serving on the AHS board, the process is public and you may apply by visiting the Governor’s Office of Boards and Commissions and following the instructions.
